Card Making

Making your own cards can be a great way to express your gratitude – you get to write a personal note to them and you show them that you spent your time making something just for them. There are many ways to make cards, but one cool technique to use is called Embossing.

Embossing gives the card a professional, stunning effect to the card. It adds dimension to the text with its 3D effect, and it gives the text a glossy finish. Unfortunately, the effect of embossing is not so evident in the pictures – the effect is best seen by tilting the card back and forth. Nonetheless, the receiver will be amazed by the effect and will wonder how you did it! I am going to show you the steps to embossing.

1.

Select which clear stamp you are going to use. Here, I am using the ‘birthday wishes’ stamp. Place the stamp on the stamping block.

2.

Put the stamping block with the clear stamp in the embossing pad – make sure that you get enough ink on the clear stamp!

3.

Stamp the ink-covered side of the clear stamp on the paper/card you are going to use.

4.

Quickly cover the stamped area with the embossing powder, so that the powder can stick to the ink before it dries up.

5.

Wait a few seconds and then remove the powder by pouring it on a paper which has been creased in the middle.

6.

The powder will then glide down the middle of the paper into the powder pot.

7.

You should now have this. But we’re not done yet!

8.

Now use the heating tool. Place it a few inches away from the paper and move it back and forth over the powder-covered area. Whilst you are using the tool, you will notice that the powder will start to raise and solidify, and become more glossy.

9.

You can not see the effect much in the picture, but you will end up with an embossed pattern.

10.

Cut it out! I punched a small hole through it and used this on a present as a tag.
